Estonia kept alive - EHE South Estonia

"Before going to Paris, go to Nuustaku!" is one of the favorite Estonian phrases. However, did you know that Southern Estonia is exactly the place where Nuustaku is located?   True, but now the place is known as Otepää.  And once you're already in Otepää and have seen the Lake Pühajärve, it is doubtful that Paris could ever again feel attractive to you.

In South Estonia the tourism region consists of six counties (Jõgeva, Põlva, Tartu, Valga, Võru and Viljandi), which offer you an enchanting and wonderful, fairy tale land - the landscape becomes hilly, and climbing to the top of higher hills you can enjoy the beautiful view of rolling hills and valleys and the deep blue lakes hidden in this magnificent landscape.  Also, the local architecture, especially the churches, manor houses and ancient fortresses of Southern Estonia, are worth having a closer look at, in order to better perceive the flavor of the times gone past and of the people that lived here.

To the delight of hikers and trekkers, there are lots of diverse hiking trails in Southern Estonia, and by passing though them, you can be sure to be intimately acquainted with the local nature. Breathtakingly beautiful rolling hills, species-rich national parks and nature reserves, numerous rivers and lakes – all this you can find here!
